Version 1.1 of “Ace in Another World” Now Available
The definitive edition of “Ace in Another World: That Time You Were Reincarnated In A Fantasy World Surrounded By Beautiful Women But Weren’t Interested In Any of Them!!” is now available!
This version is a fairly significant revamp that adds repetitive and inconsistent music, laughably bad sound effects, and even some lazy transitions and animations to help it feel more like a “finished” product. Most of the script is the same, but there’s now a brief additional line at the end to recognize whether you skipped all the encounters or not.
I had a ton of fun making the music and sound effects myself without the pressure of trying to make something “good”. I used a lotus-tuned kalimba (without buzzers) that my late dad gave me a long time ago to make the music. I’ve been meaning to use it to make music for a game for years, but just never got around to it… Glad I finally did. 🙂
While there are still a lot things I could do with this game (like adding a custom GUI, etc.), my goal was always just to finish making a game (for the first time in 14 years!), and I accomplished that. Now that it feels more “complete”, my plan is to leave it be and not make any more updates – except maybe to fix bugs if any are discovered. Of course, I also said that about Memoirs and I ended up making another couple of major updates…
Anyway, thanks to everyone who has played this dumb little game so far! Make sure you also check out the “fixed” version by ashnin10, which is where I got the inspiration for the adorable little bounce animation I added in this version.
“Memoirs of an Angel (2010)” Coming to Steam
My first game, “Memoirs of an Angel”, is finally coming to Steam on July 30, 2024. How exciting!
Back in my day, you couldn’t just publish your game to Steam. It had to be “greenlit” by people voting to express interest, and your game would only be published on Steam if it got enough votes. That held me back from posting to Steam for a long time because I didn’t think my stupid little game would get enough interest. But now, you can just fork over some $$ and go through a brief review process, which is much more accessible. So, hey, I’m official now!
To celebrate, I’m going to be live-streaming playthroughs of each of the four main routes of the game on my Twitch channel throughout the month of July, so keep an eye out for more information about that.
Can’t wait for the end of July? The new game version, v1.3, has already been posted to itch.io.

“Ace in Another World”: A Hilariously Bad Fantasy Adventure
My entry for the “Worst Visual Novel Ever” Challenge 2024 game jam, Ace in Another World: That Time You Were Reincarnated In A Fantasy World Surrounded By Beautiful Women But Weren’t Interested In Any of Them!!, is available now on PC, Mac, and Linux.
Synopsis
You find yourself reincarnated in a fantasy world of magic and monsters, tasked with defeating the evil Demon Lord. Armed with powerful magic (that you know for no explicable reason), you set out on an epic quest to slay your foe – only to be interrupted again and again by beautiful women who need your help and won’t take “no” for an answer. Can you resist their distractions and save the world?
Developer’s Notes
I heard about this game jam on Tumblr and immediately leapt at the chance. I struggle a lot with perfectionism and thought this would be a good chance to make something fun and silly – and maybe even finish it! – without any pressure to do a good job. The idea for this game was actually the third or fourth idea I tried. I cared too much about the other ideas to make them bad, oops.
Ultimately, this game is inspired by all the isekai trash anime I’ve watched with my boyfriend, and all the times I wanted to tell the poor girls who throw themselves at the protagonist to get a grip because they deserve so much better.
This game’s got it all:
- Overpowered protagonist for no reason
- Completely inconsistent characterization
- Decisions that have no impact or consequences
- Anti-climactic final battle
The game is written in second person (“you”) and makes no references to the player’s gender, though I had a male protagonist in mind when I wrote it. The title is in reference to the story being written with an asexual protagonist in mind, and is inspired by my own thoughts and experiences as an asexual person, but the game makes no explicit references to the player’s sexuality.
I made all of the art for the sprites and backgrounds myself, though I relied heavily on references for the character sprites. I had to start over on the backgrounds three times because I kept trying to make them good! In the end, I ended up with a super messy painted style that doesn’t look as terrible as I feared it would. I mean, at least it’s better than stick figures.
Other than the original Memoirs of an Angel, this is the first game I’ve actually completed, so I’m pretty proud of myself. I had a lot more planned, like making my own (terrible) music, sound effects, and maybe even voice acting, but I had to remind myself that the whole point was to make something quick, fun, and low effort. I’d like to add some sort of music in a future update, though, just to give it a little extra polish.
Disclaimers
This game was created for the “Worst Visual Novel Ever” Challenge 2024 game jam, the goal of which is to have fun and make something terrible. That means it’s bad on purpose!

Zuleika introduces herself to Chael. Kirile shows off his Blue Heart status. It’s been (almost) 11 long years
and my first game, Memoirs of an Angel, continues to be the highlight of my game development journey. It was my first foray into game development and computer programming: just a quick, fun, otome visual novel made at a time when the genre was practically non-existent outside of Japan.
I loved making this game so much, it literally changed my life! I’m now a professional software engineer living in Seattle, WA, seeking out my first big break into the AAA game industry.
Almost immediately after the initial release of Memoirs back in 2010, I began developing a reboot. I could see the potential in the story and characters beyond the quick and silly script I wrote in a couple days for the original game, and I wanted to realize it as a full RPG.
Of course, RPGs are incredibly complex and difficult to develop, so… uh… I’m still working on that one.
Anyway, I hope this release on itch.io will expose Memoirs to a whole new audience. I also want to thank everyone who has stuck around this long – it’s hard to believe it’s already been over a decade! The otome landscape has changed so much since 2010, but I’m so proud to see so many indie game devs out there fighting the good fight and providing quality content for otome-lovers.
Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the game!

Version 1.2 of “Memoirs of an Angel (2010)” is now available!
I know, I know, everyone who was going to play this game probably has by now (I can’t believe it’s been over 5 years since its first release!). But I’m working on building my professional portfolio and thought I’d dust off some of my old projects, make sure they’re presentable.
I didn’t add any extra scenes or content, so if you’ve already played it, feel free to skip this update. But if not, now is as good a time as any to jump on board!
What’s new in this version:
- Updated to the latest version of Ren’py (I think I caught all the bugs this caused, but if you see something funky, let me know).
- A complete overhaul of the GUI, including game menus, the gallery, and the status screen that shows up at the end of each chapter. No more default Ren’py menus or graphics made in Microsoft Word. (And the world rejoices!)
- For you completionists out there, I added a new “Endings” panel to the gallery so you can tell exactly which endings you’ve unlocked and how many more you still need to find.
- The battle mini-game has been revamped. It still looks the same on the outside, but the programming behind it is completely different. Rather than critical hits and misses being tied to specific turns, it’s randomized (based on different percentages for each character). In other words, it’s much more difficult now! (Remember you can always forfeit and get your energy back if you’re about to lose
or just rollback like a cheater…).
This will probably be the last update I do on this game. Playing through it and noticing its flaws really made me want to go through and add some scenes to flesh out the story more…but that’s the whole purpose behind the remake: to regain some of that lost potential.
In the meantime, I’m working on a short, old-school text-based game that takes place in the same world (specifically Pyralis). It does tie into the Memoirs series, but I won’t say how quite yet. 😉 So be on the lookout for that.

“Memoirs Character Creator”: Looking for Beta Testers
Do you like dress up games? Do you spend hours upon hours creating the perfect character at the beginning of RPGs? Are you just bored with some extra time on your hands?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, I need YOU! Yes, you!
I need help testing the project I’ve spent the last few months working on: The Memoirs Character Creator. It’s a browser-based game (no bulky file to download!) that lets you design your own character within the Memoirs universe, ending with a “Character Summary” sheet that you can screenshot, re-post, and share with your friends.
I’ll include more information with the official release, but for right now, I’m just looking for a few testers to help me look for bugs and typos and offer suggestions. If you’re interested in helping me out, please play the game and let me know what you think.
Thank you!

“The Memoirs of Genesis”: A Prequel to “Memoirs of an Angel”
The title screen for “The Memoirs of Genesis”. As the dust starts to settle following the rebellion, Zuleika must get used to her new position as Empress of Tyraca. Unsure of herself, she seeks out the wisdom of the last empress, Lady Genesis, who helped to build the empire from the ground up and whose influence can still be felt in every corner of Egea. What Zuleika finds is the loose pages of a journal long thought lost to time, written by the very woman herself, but as the angel begins to sort through them, it becomes clear that the truth is nothing like the tales the bards sing.
The pages reveal the story of Ceres, a young priestess of Nalan dealing with being fathered by an outsider in the stoic and increasingly isolated society of the Nalani elves. She finds a kindred spirit in Dimitrius, a shipwrecked sailor from Eliador, and they fall in love and even start a family together. Life is wonderful…until tragedy strikes. Forced out of her homeland, the young Mother must embark on a long and epic journey across Egea to rescue her husband and avenge her son, vowing to do whatever it takes to take back her home…even if she has to conquer half of Egea to do so.
Developer’s Notes
“The Memoirs of Genesis” is a companion piece to the Memoirs of an Angel remake that is currently in production, and will probably be a lot more meaningful once I get around to finishing making that game (sorry, sorry), but it works as a stand-alone piece as well. It details the extraordinary life of Lady Genesis from childhood until death, as seen through her eyes. For fans of Memoirs, it offers a valuable look at the other nations of Egea (Nalan and Pyralis) that are only briefly mentioned in the main game, and gives important insight into the pasts and motivations of several characters, including the two main antagonists of the remake, Nefferon and Menorrhi.
For more details, you can check out the WIP thread on LemmaSoft. Since there are so many other great titles being made for NaNoRenO this year, I have a feeling that this one will probably get overlooked, but that’s okay. It’s a free game – just something I’m doing because I can and because I’ve been thinking about this story for a while and have always wanted to participate in this event.
That said, at this point, I’m starting to think it won’t get done for NaNoRenO because I still don’t have an artist, nor do I expect to get one without being able to afford a real commission, to be honest. I’ll keep going, though, on the off-chance that I do manage to find someone interested, and we’ll see how much I can finish before March is over. Worst case scenario, I’ll finish writing and programming it, but it’ll sit on the back-burner for a while until I can afford to hire an artist.
Anyway, just wanted to let y’all know that this is a thing and that yes, it is actually happening. I’ve already sent the outline/rough draft to a friend for editing and suggestions, and will start writing the final draft in the meantime.
Thank you for your interest and support~

“Cinders” Game Review: Classic Fairy Tale with a New Twist
A different kind of fairy tale.
Over the holidays, “Cinders” went on sale, so I finally picked it up after being in awe of it from the shadows since it was still in the early stages of development.
As a VN maker, the beautiful execution of “Cinders” makes me so jealous. The art, the beautifully animated backgrounds, the motifs, all the different choices and the subtle ways they affect the story… ugh, I can only dream of making such a gorgeous and well-crafted game (and I would kill to be able to hire an artist like that for “Memoirs”).
As a VN player, I felt the story was a bit short, but then again, it only spanned the course of a week, so that’s not surprising. It was the length it needed to be to tell the story it aimed to, I suppose, but I was just expecting a little more. Also, if you only play VNs for the romance, you might be disappointed with this one because, while there are romance options, they’re more of an afterthought. At least the way I played it, I ended up getting way closer to (and learning more about) the step-sisters than I ever did with the supposed love interests. As the official game description advertises, it really is all about the women of the story – Cinders, Sophia, Gloria, and Lady Carmosa – and what made them who they are.
But that doesn’t mean I didn’t like the story! On the contrary, I thought it was a great take on the classic tale. I never really liked “Cinderella” that much because it felt like the moral of the story was just “as long as you’re a good person, someone will come along and save you from your misery,” but “Cinders” provided a much-needed modern perspective with a smart, cunning protagonist who changes depending on your choices. And there are a lot of choices. Most seem fairly insignificant when you make them, but you realize later how much they must have impacted the story. Cinders’ fate really is in your hands.
WARNING: Major spoilers ahead!
I didn’t use a walkthrough because I couldn’t find one that was really clear about which choices to make… probably because there are so many different combinations. So I played blind (which is really rare for me), but I still managed okay.
Anyway, I romanced Perrault during my playthrough because… well… Cinders sums it up pretty well:
You and I are on the same page, Cinders. I also made friends with Sophia, accidentally pissed off Gloria (I’m so sorry, Gloria, I didn’t mean to… I wanted to be friends, honest!), showed Carmosa sympathy (especially once I found out about the money problems), and I guess I was cold and ruthless? I honestly thought I was playing a good character until it told me I was a Machiavellic Queen. Perhaps I’m not as innocent and kind as I thought, haha.
I went for the Traveler ending first because I thought it made the most sense with Perrault as my lover, especially since I encouraged him to retire. I felt it was wrong for him to compromise his morals just for the sake of keeping his job, so it made sense for him to retire and for us to run away together. Apparently, the game agreed because it’s the only ending where you get a romantic cutscene with him.
Cinders and Perrault sharing a well-earned romantic kiss. After that, I went ahead and got the other two endings I could without changing my attitude or how I dealt with Carmosa and the sisters (the Fairytale Ending and Independent Woman ending).
Of the three endings, the Traveler ending was, as mentioned, the best romantically (at least for Perrault), but in general, I liked the Independent Woman ending the best. It made the most sense overall and allowed everyone to get their happy ending, not just Cinders. Well… almost everyone (poor Perrault and his arm…).
Despite its name, the Fairytale Ending didn’t involve “living happily ever after” at all. Maybe it’s because I accidentally played a “cold and ruthless” Cinders, but that was the most depressing ending ever. I apparently crushed all the prince’s ideals and became a tyrant, Perrault was reduced to my man on the side (and had to compromise his morals and become a spy to do so), and my step-family – who I had spent an entire game coming to get to know and sympathize with – fell into even greater despair and poverty. Yeah, way to go, Cinders; you finally got the power and prestige you wanted at the expense of everyone else’s happiness. Some hero you are.
So yeah…there’s my playthrough in a nutshell. I might play again to see how differently things turn out (and hopefully be kind and good this time around, maybe romance Tobias), but I’m not sure I could ever bring myself to get the ending that involves poisoning Carmosa. She may be a b*tch, but she’s not evil, nor has she done anything deserving death. Public humiliation, maybe, or exile at the worst, but death? That seems a bit extreme.
Feel free to comment or discuss the game with me. I would love to hear your opinions!

“Memoirs of an Angel (2010)” Officially Released
Title screen for “Memoirs of an Angel”. The other day (October 31), I finally posted the old 2010 version of “Memoirs of an Angel,” which has been sitting around collecting dust on my computer for the last two years. Though it was technically finished, I never posted it as a “completed game” because, first of all, I never got all the CGs I wanted, and second, because I started working on the remake almost immediately.
My full rant notes and details about the game can be found here, but the short version is that I was digging around for something and found the original “Memoirs” game on my backup drive, so I decided to dust it off, fix it up, and finally release it to the public. Major fixes include: reworking the code so that it’s more “skip-friendly” (and the same text isn’t repeated 10 times), replacing Duren’s and Nefferon’s sprites with the improved versions from the remake (no more ugly yellow raincoat for Neffy), adding a system to change Zuleika’s outfit color and equip accessories unlocked in past playthroughs, making the dancing mini-game slightly more difficult based on feedback, making the character profiles more legible and adding credits to all outside artists’ work, and restoring the audio to its original quality after I had significantly lowered the quality for previous versions.
Zuleika introduces herself to Chael. I hadn’t expected much of a response since, again, this is just the old game, and honestly, the remake is/will be so much better that playing through the old game makes me laugh at how bad it is (at least compared to what I can do now). But to my surprise, I’ve had a pretty overwhelmingly positive response, and it was brought to my attention that a blurb for my game has even been posted on the English Otome Games Tumblr. Upon doing a search, I found a few other reviews for my game as well! It makes me happy to see that people like my game, but it definitely puts pressure on me to finish the remake, haha. I guess I better get on that, lest I incur the wrath of the fans…
If you haven’t already done so, please check out the “Memoirs of an Angel (2010)” thread. If you like it, please be sure to let me know. 🙂
